Making Mornings Easy

Want things to work like clockwork in the mornings?  Things always seem to come up wrong?  Unpredictable things put a snag in your morning?

What I’ve come up with seems to help my mornings flow so much better if I do them each day.

Begin by Having a Good Evening Routine

The morning routine starts with a good evening routine.  Outfits and accessories are chosen the night before for all members of the family.  Each part is laid out on the dresser including socks, underwear, shoes, and accessories.  This eliminates having to search high and low for the other shoe, necklace or hair accessories. This prevents the arguments from kids in the morning about what they are wearing and can get dressed on their own.

Breakfast should be made as much as possible with the table set.  Cereal can be already on the table and coffee in the Keurig with mug ready.  Lunches made and in the fridge. All backpacks, bags, purses, and coats can be ready and by the door.  Some families even pack their cars the night before.

Morning Routine

In the morning there should be a set routine that everyone follows so the family works together to get out of the house in a timely manner.  Each person should have set expectations as to what they are responsible for in the morning.  Weekends are a great time to work on routines and helping children understand their responsibilities without such a time crunch.

Extra Time

There should be a built-in 15 minutes of extra time in the morning for the unforeseeable.  We like to use that time to read a book, play a game, or go outside if there is time.  This helps us with the mishaps and gives us a reward for an efficient morning.  I hope your mornings become easy mornings soon.
