Taking Stock of Your Pantry

Let’s talk about pantry organization today since a lot of us are trying not to go to the grocery store as much so we order online or get curbside pickup.  It is a good time to reorganize what you have and take stock of what is there.

Let’s sort out all of our stock in the pantry so that we use what was already purchased in meals or intentionally as snacks checking expiration dates as we go and tossing things that need to go and donating what we really won’t eat.

Let’s do this in an orderly way.

Start on your top shelf in the pantry and take everything down.  Wipe the shelf down.  Sort everything by kind.

  1. Make lists. Write on your shopping list any staples you lack on that shelf.  Then divide a paper into 3 columns and put ingredients into categories of meal ideas, side dish ideas, and snacks on it.  If you need a couple more ingredients to make a meal with the items you purchased, put those onto your shopping list.Put items back on the shelf if they are staples.  If they are for a certain meal, place all cans or boxes together and label with a sticky note or place in a bag with a note taped to it.  This is helpful to label it especially if you have more than one person cooking in the family so they don’t use the ingredients you planned for a specific meal.
2. When you are finished putting everything back, you should have 4 lists including a good grocery list started and all you’ll need to add are things that are stored in the refrigerator or freezer.

I hope these lists help you use what you have and know what you need also!
