Best Containers for Christmas Decorations
I’ve been helping many families this season to decorate for Christmas and then put it all away. It goes fastest for the ones with the easiest containers to use. I thought I’d share the best ones I’ve seen. I’ll include the links. I don’t have any affiliate programs, so I don’t make anything from you buying them. Most are just examples so choose what fits your needs.
Ornament Storage

I really like customizable storage boxes for ornaments so you can put each one into a little tray that has dividers to protect them. I linked an example of one from Amazon. The little trays are nice so that the dividers can stay put when you store it empty.
They do make some ornament storage boxes for under the bed storage. That would be nice if you have room under your guest bed that you can use.
There’s also plastic bins that have customizable storage for ornaments also and they range in size to meet your needs.
Wreath Storage
To store your wreath, getting and zip-up wreath bag is worth it. They do make double wreath bags if you have 2 doors you have wreaths for. Just make sure to measure your wreath first so you get the right size. It is best not to get the bag too big because the snugness of the bag will protect the wreath.
Tree Storage
Many people store their trees in the boxes they come in and just use packing tape to keep them closed. The boxes always seem just a bit too small though. Depending on your tree and if it is fragile with built-in lights or flecked with snow, you may want a sturdier box or bag. Bags generally can be found for around $10 and they are easy to use and haul to the attic. They are listed according to height also.
Christmas Decorations
General decorations I like to store with tissue paper in a Christmas Storage Bin so it is easy to spot in the garage or attic. This is for anything durable that is made of metal, wood, or plastic that’ll survive hot temperatures.
Things that are handmade, have pictures in them, or are very special, I keep in a bin in my closet so it’ll be climate controlled.
Christmas Lights
Usually lights are stored in their own bins keeping the outside lights together with clips, timers, and extension cords.
Indoor lights and garlands can be kept separately in their own bins to make them easy to use.
Ease of set up and tear down
To make it all easy for yourself to set up and tear down, take a picture of what all goes in each bin and tape it to the inside of the bin and include a picture of how it looks when it is up. This also will help anyone helping you to get it how it fits and how you like it.
There isn’t a “right or wrong” way to put up and take down decor, just whatever makes it easiest for you and your crew. Many families put off taking things down because it takes so much time, so let’s make it simpler.
Which new storage item will you add?
